There are a lot of people who ask “How do I get paid for writing?” The answer is simple. Freelancing on the internet has become one of the best ways to make money as a writer. There are many jobs available that will pay you well and give you plenty of flexibility in how, when, and where you work. You can find these opportunities all over the web, from sites like Upwork, Fiverr, WritersAccess, or even Craigslist!

Until I started my own online business in social media marketing and blogging I did not realize the demand that was out there for writers. I say writers but I should say there is a demand for people who have the time to write. you don’t have to be a trained writer just able to write at around a high school level. I say that lightly because I likely write at more of a middle school level myself and get paid to write every day.

The first step is to figure out what type of writing do you want to focus on. There are many options. These include blog articles, social media posts, Ads, Email Copy, newsletters, presentations, speeches, website content, and even ebooks.

Personally, I have gotten paid for blog posts, social media content, website content, email copy, and as hard as it is to believe from myself a little bit of procedure writing. I have been considering grabbing a few jobs putting together presentations. My only issue is finding more time in the day.

Who will pay me to write

You are probably wondering ok I have picked what I think I am interested in now who would hire me? Well, you will be surprised, if you know how to get in contact with them. There are a lot of companies that want content for their blog or articles but don’t have the time or resources to get this done. Some of these include businesses, charities, and startups just trying to get off the ground. Most small businesses will try to do this on their own and it takes away the focus from their business. These people have the same issue I mentioned above a lack of time. the time they do have is spent on doing whatever their business does. This makes them prime candidates to hire freelance writers.

What I want to get across in this article is that there are a lot of companies out there looking for people who can write well and get the job done. they all know how important social media and their website are for their business but they may or may not know how easy it is to get a freelancer. reach out to them and you will find that this is an easy side hustle to grow.

Another group of people who will pay you to write for them is bloggers and social media marketers. I know what you are thinking why would a social media marketer or blogger hire me if that’s what they are paid to do. It’s very easy, the only way to scale is to hire writers. If I spent a full day writing blogs and social media posts I would not be able to scale as fast as a team of writers. I would also not find the time to get new clients. so in the end I would have no business.

I will stick with the two methods I have used personally to make a monthly living for the past few years. There are many other options out there but I have found these two very easy to find clients for and the pay for work isn’t bad. for me being a father of four time is short. I need side gigs that can be done at night and on weekends.

Get Paid to Write Articles for Blogs

With all the blog posts daily is it any surprise that many people get paid to write online? Blogs are a great place for writers, and there are numerous ways you can make money by writing articles. If you do a search for freelance blog writers you will find a ton of sites that offer to pay you to write or offer to sell you written content for a price. The specific sites that I have used are WritersAccess and Upwork.

The typical job I have taken pays around $0.02 per word and the average word count seems to hover right around 1,500 words. This job usually takes me an hour or so to complete once I sit down and get to work. It also depends on the topic but you have to make sure it’s a topic that won’t take a large amount of time to research. therefore in general my per hour rate writing blogs is around $30 bucks per hour. I usually write about 10 blog posts per week so I make on average $1,200 per month writing blog posts. Your per cord pay does fluctuate base on your writing ability. I know some people who are making much higher than $0.02 per word but like I said earlier this post is written for people at my writing level.

Get Paid to Create Social Media Post

For the past few years, social media management has been my number one side hustle. I remember and watching tons of YouTubers tell me how easy it was and how much money there was to be made. So of course I jumped in with both feet, bought courses on Udemy, and started trying to grow my business. At first, I hit a bunch of brick walls and didn’t find the thousands everyone on YouTube told me I should be making. Over about a 3 month period, I learned what I was doing and the money did start coming in. Again like blog writing now the only thing holding me back is time. I don’t think I have tried to find a new client to write for since 2020.

The first thing people want to know is how much you will get paid and how much time does it take. I have a post you can read here which goes into more details about being a social media manager HERE but I will give a short overview on this post as well.

The scale for what business owners will pay to have their social media managed ranges drastically. I have seen it from $200 per month up to $4,000 per month. It really depends on your skill and what they need done. for this post we are discussing how to get paid to write so lets assume all you want to do is write the content.

The average price I have paid or been paid is around $4.00 per written post. I know I know that sounds like nothing but lets go over what a post is and how long it takes. A post is usually one or two lines of text and usually takes a few mins to put together. Most clients will need a post written for 5 days a week minimum. Therefore for every client you write for you will make a minimum of $80 per month. I have found that if I am focused I will knock out a clients monthly post in about 3 to 40 hours. So again you will be making around $20 bucks per hours sitting at home drinking coffee.

Where can I sell my writing

This is probably the most important question to get started with. I guess that’s why I put it last on the post. there are really two options here. the first is on online platforms and the second is directly to the customer. Which you pick is more dependent on your own preference. Do you like ot get out there and talk your way into things or rather be behind a computer trying to find work.

What I have found works the best if you are a get out there type of person is just bring it up in conversation. I have tried the walk into a business and cold present them and I have had zero success. on the other hand I have found that if you bring it up in conversation with people you can sell yourself without trying to sell it to them cold. Or I have found if you offer them something for free or in trade you will get business. My first client was a Dance Studio that my daughter wanted to attend. I talked to them about my daughter signing up and I offered to fix a few things I saw wrong with their social media just as part of the conversation. In the end I gained them as a long term clients and expanded through word of mouth.

If you are not interested in talking to people there are a lot of resources to find work on safely behind the keyboard. The main one I have used is Upwork. It is very easy to set up an account and I have a post already written on how to use it as a side hustle HERE. For this one to get paid to write you need to apply for a bunch of gigs and you may have to do it very cheap at first. No one knows or trusts you yet. Once you have a few customers and some ratings you can bring your price point up to where it feels like you are earning what you are worth. A lot of times I have found taking a small job for a low price leads to much longer work for better money. I have had many one month gigs turning into multiple years of work

Conclusion

If you’re looking for more ways to make money, writing is a great place to start. There are many places that will pay writers online, and it’s possible to earn an income without years of experience or even having any professional training in the field. We hope this article has given you some ideas about how you can use your creativity and knowledge on topics related to marketing, SEO, digital advertising strategies, social media trends, and content development as tools for making money through writing online.
